Cosmetic Gum Treatment in Beverly Hills
Even out Your Gum Line or Fix Your Gummy Smile
As a periodontist, Dr. Peto is highly skilled and trained in any kind of gum treatment. This includes the cosmetic treatment of gums to remove excess gum in a gummy smile, to contour an uneven gum line and to cover exposed roots in receding gums.
Fixing a gummy smile or uneven gum line is a cosmetic procedure and Dr. Peto has training in the cosmetics of a smile. He knows how to achieve aesthetic results. He has even published an article on this subject in the April 2015 issue of the Journal of the California Dental Association.
Treatment for Gummy Smiles
Smiles look “gummy” when teeth appear shorter than normal or a smile is dominated by more gum than teeth. While it may appear that the teeth are simply too short, it’s actually an overabundance of bone and gum tissue covering a portion of the tooth. Many people with this condition feel self-conscious and are unhappy with their smile.
To repair a gummy smile, Dr. Peto sculpts away the excess bone and gum tissue so the gum can rest in the proper relationship with the tooth. This treatment is also known as “cosmetic crown lengthening.” The result is a beautifully balanced smile.
For patients with too much gum tissue to simply remove, Dr. Peto can perform a Lip Repositioning procedure. This short and minimally invasive surgical procedure makes it so the upper lip does not move as far up during a full smile, reducing the amount of gum exposure.
Recontouring Uneven Gum Lines
Sometimes the gum line is uneven and it can mar the appearance of your smile. Dr. Peto corrects this by removing gum tissue and reshaping bone tissue around the teeth that are out of alignment with the rest of the gum line.
Treatment for Receding Gums
Gum recession results in exposure of the tooth root. For severe cases of gum disease, Dr. Peto will perform soft tissue grafting (Connective Tissue Grafting) to cover unattractive tooth roots, thicken the gum tissue and protect the root from decay.
Functional Crown Lengthening
Dr. Peto performs crown lengthening for restoration procedures. If your tooth is decayed or broken below the gum line, or has insufficient tooth structure for a restoration such as a crown or bridge to comfortably fit, crown lengthening can be done to correct this. The crown lengthening procedure adjusts the gum and bone levels to expose more of the tooth for its restoration.
